Our Story

Handmade Nudie custom solid wood longboard and cruiser skateboards

Nudie Boards are handmade by Alby and Nic in hilly Surrey, and wild Cornwall, England.

The idea behind Nudie Boards was seeded almost 20 years ago, when we rode our first skate ski on a surf trip in Cornwall. A wooden waterski with skate wheels… Who? Why? What the.... YES! We immediately took it to the nearest hill and started carving down towards the beach, where we had been surfing that morning. It felt amazing. So simple, so much fun. Everyone stopped to look. Everyone smiled as we cruised past them. We rode till nightfall. Then we strapped a torch to the front of the board and carried on, until we had not an ounce of energy left to smile. That’s how it began. It started a quest... The quest to take the skateboard right back to its roots.

Riding a handmade solid wood longboard skateboard

We’re passionate about simplicity, about going back to basics. It’s how we live our lives, with the best twists of modern thrown in too.

It’s kind of handy that Nic runs a design agency, and Alby is a product engineer and photographer. Take this and combine with a ridiculous passion for boards and boardsports. Mix in constant travel and adventure in pursuit of our sports, and throw in the love of designing and making beautiful boards, and you have Nudie Boards.

We take the roots of a design, and improve it here and there, whilst keeping it faithful and retaining its originality.

We can’t help ourselves. We ride classic motorbikes from the 50’s and 60’s with a few special tweaks to perfect and personalise the ride, oh and the noise – don’t get us started…

Alby and Nic with custom solid wood longboard and cruiser skateboards

Nic spent a year looking for character in his next home, and found a classic coach house built in 1766, hidden away near the river. Alby came to visit straight away, and we’re not sure if it was his best mate, or the countless skateable hills nearby that reeled him in. An afternoon skating, and an evening sat round the fire in Nic’s new local, and a plan was hatched. Two weeks later Alby arrived from Wales ready to refit his newly purchased houseboat, and moored it on the island in the Thames that Nic's studio was on. Let the adventure begin.

Then the countless board meetings began. Designs, ideas, influences (skating breaks), sketches, debates, prototypes, more skating.

Until we were ready. And then Nudie Boards was launched, with plenty more surprises planned along the way.

Now we're lucky enough to split our time between the water's edge in wild Cornwall and a huge boat on the Thames - so we really have the best of both worlds. The boards are always made outdoors next to the water in both locations. It all depends on where we're adventuring at the time.

So take a look at our collection. We’ll be sorry to see them go, so make sure you give them a good home and take them out as often as you can. They’ll treat you well!

And don't forget to keep up with our antics on Facebook and Instagram too.
